While it is a piece of fiction, Mujica is well respected in academic circles for being an expert on Frida Kahlo and Mexican history, which really adds another dimension to the story. The content of the book is quality information like a textbook but more entertaining to read with good pictures and diagrams. The remaining lectures have their dramatics and include what would have been typical Victorian racial pride and negativity toward much of the native populations of Africa. So, this book is rather disappointing; I would have paid more for a normal format book, but the only alternative to this wretched "Chunky" size edition is to buy a old and used hardbound copy of the original edition(which typically sell for almost $100). The book is not for someone in search of a canned ideology or a casual read. The overall goal for the volume is to acknowledge the multimodal nature of mathematical knowing, and to contribute to the creation of a model of the interactions and mutual influences of bodily motion, spatial thinking, gesture, speech and external inscriptions on mathematical thinking, communication and learning.
