Also because I kept hoping to find something meaningfully philosophical as the title suggests might be contained within. One of the other reviewers said she couldn't understand a word of the book, and I can only content myself with suggesting she begin with Dick and Jane, because this is not a convoluted, complicated book. While one could probably have done a bit of sailing on these ships alone, in fact they were not like modern sailing vessels at all and lacked the kind of equipment that made them easy to operate with a small crew. BeNeca Ward highlights the practices that were once used to set the American standards on raising children to be kind, respectful and responsible adults. So what do you do at that point. It is like a "that makes sense" moment.
